Welcome to the Information Resource website for the planning of the upcoming Fiji Study Tour for Summer 2004. This will be our third organized program bringing students from the Flint Metropolitan Area to the tropics of Fiji in an effort to create an educational experience that goes beyond the classroom. There is no substitute for actually being somewhere else, somewhere that gives you perspective and allows you to gain more than just experiencing foreign cultures. Making a journey also enables the participant to gain perspective on their own culture, their country, and their own identity.
The program offered here is meant to provide students of all ages and disciplines the opportunity to step through the looking glass and begin to grow in a way that will forever change the way they see themselves and their place in the world. Experiences are diverse, from a series of day-long immersive workshops in traditional art and design, to museum and cultural center visits that provide historical contexts. Students partake in the beauty and ruggedness of the islands through several treks that can take them deep into the highlands of Fiji's tropical rainforest, or to the demanding but historically important Sigatoka Sand Dunes guided by the knowledgeable staff of the Fiji National Museum.
During the trip, we will call the Beachouse backpacker's resort home. It is a well-kept welcoming and central location in Korolevu that provides a creatively inspired atmosphere and safe, clean environment located along one of Fiji's most beautiful coastlines.
As student “ambassadors” to Fiji, we are representing not only ourselves but our college and our country and therefore we will be requiring each student interested in participating to go through a brief but important application process. This allows us to learn more about you, as well as help you put your thoughts on paper as to how important this experience will be to you and what you can bring to the journey for fellow students.
Use the links below to get more information on our plans as well as to download the application information. And please be sure to send an email with any questions or to indicate your interest in participating!
I look forward to hearing from you!
