ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Kathleen B. Johnston

This artwork shows the environment, in which I grew up, amongst the factories in the city of Flint, Michigan. Shown also are the houses that I have in. All this is surrounded by a chain link fence. Everyone dreams of growing up and moving away, though no matter where you go you still are connected to the place you grew up. The camera is floating in the sky as though I am taking a picture of the scene; one of my favorite things to do is to take pictures. All that I have done through my life has led me to where and who I am now. Through childhood, becoming a wife, mother and college student. Each decade new experiences, always learning.
