ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Teina Tallarigo

Even though my trip to Fiji was with a diverse group of fellow students, my journey was a self-spiritual one. The most impressive element that inspired me was the way the Fijian people were so willing to give to others, regardless of how much they themselves had. The phrase, ‘It Takes a Village’ was truly demonstrated by the way the Fijian people cared for their fellow man. Another aspect of beauty is the country. The abundance of vibrantly colored flowers, the turquoise greens and blues of the ocean and the treasured seashells deposited on the sand. The beauty of the landscape and ocean will always be imprinted in my memories. Time and people in Fiji seem to move at a slower pace, creating a deepened sense of peace and tranquility. My journey to Fiji has made me a more listening person, more accepting of other people and I have a deeper appreciation of nature. I will never forget Fiji, nor it’s people. Hopefully my experiences from Fiji will be forever reflected in my art.
