A MASSIVE tourism rehabilitation campaign saw diplomats join hundreds of people
at a special rally at
Sigatoka's Lawaqa Park, yesterday.
The envoys and several members of the public expressed their feeling and have
pledged to lift the industry to a
higher level through promotional campaigns. The main aims of the Spirit of Fiji
Campaign are of two folds:
To bring together industry people for a day of interaction and fun and show
the ambassadors , the industry was
still intact despite of the difficulties
Plead with the ambassadors asking them to allow their countrymen to come to
Fiji. Campaign chairman Viliame
Gavoka said they believed those aims would improve the country's confidence
at this time of uncertainty and
upheaval, convince foreign governments that Fijian attitude towards visitors
has not changed and convince
visitors in primary source markets they are still welcome in Fiji.
"The Spirit of Fiji Campaign is for our people to correct what is wrong
and only with that confidence and then
only take the important step of inviting our good friends from abroad,"
said Mr Gavoka.
"The campaign has been going for three weeks and first we visited the
villages and spoke to everyone to
appreciate and value tourism and its importance.

THE Western side is a safe tourist destination, according to acting British
High Commissioner Chris Haslem.
Mr Haslem made the statement during the Spirit of Fiji Campaign held at Sigatoka's
Lawaqa Park, sponsored
by the local tourist industry, yesterday. His comments came in the wake of negative
international travel
advisories, which forced a downward spin in visitor arrivals from the United
Kingdoms.
"We have been closely monitoring the situation to recover but things depend
on how its future unfolds.
"Recently all travel advisories in British were advised to stop sending
tourist to Fiji.
