FIJI COUP CAUSES NOSEDIVE IN AIRLINE SALES

SUVA, Fiji Islands (July 10, 2000 ? Radio Australia)---A slump in Australian tourists since Fiji's coup has contributed to
a $15 million drop in sales in the past seven weeks by Air Pacific, the country's national airline.

Air Pacific Chief Executive Michael McQuay said the airline had cut back on all its operations since the May coup in
order to trim expenses while maintaining essential services.

The airline had also suspended all services to Japan and reduced by half its services to Australia and New Zealand.

McQuay said an advisory by Japanese authorities to its citizens against traveling to Fiji had had a detrimental effect.

Travel advisories are still in force for Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to the crisis, Air Pacific operated 18 flights a week to Australia via Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

This has been reduced to daily flights to Sydney and twice a week to Brisbane and Melbourne.
