SUVA: Fiji police today handed over a hijacked consignment of media
education books to the University of the South Pacific journalism
programme after it was recovered from Parliament by investigating
detectives.
The books, from the Freedom Forum in the United States, were reportedly
on board a courier company delivery van which was seized by rebels
during the two-month hostage crisis.
The van was driven to Parliament and its contents unloaded and
distributed in the complex.
The books were later recovered when police inspected Parliament after
the rebels left the complex last week.
Detective Corporal Paulo Tabacece, of the police criminal investigation
department, who handed the books over to USP journalism staff, said
detectives were still investigating crimes related to the police crisis
since May 19.
Journalism coordinator David Robie said he was delighted to have the
books returned.
"It clears up a mystery about their disappearance," he said.
