Coup in Solomons
05/06/00 - 12.35 pm

There has just been a coup in the Solomon Islands. Earlier an email to fijilive warned that someone had broken into the
armoury in Honiara in the Solomons and stolen guns.

According to Pacnews a group consisting of Police Personnel, The Malaitan Eagles and Prison Guards took over Police
armoury and the Solomon Islands telecommunications.

The coup leaders have threatened to shoot looters and rioters.

The people in Honiara are reported to be calm but confused.

The group are asking for removal of Police Commissioner, who is out of country at the moment, and the Prime Minister
Bartholomew Ulfa'alu.
