Fiji's new military strongman says he will serve as President for two to
three years.
Commodore Frank Bainimarama, the chief of the military, says it will
take that long to draw up a new constitution and prepare for elections.
He says he will be President and the former military chief, Ratu Epeli
Nailatikau, will be the Prime Minsiter.
Commodore Bainimarama says Ratu Epeli is talking to people with no
political affiliations about becoming ministers.
Commodore Bainimarama says he is prepared to give an amnesty to
rebel leader George Speight and six of his men, even though they
have taken over the Parliament and seized hostages.
But he says the amnesty will not cover the murder of a policeman in
Suva on Sunday night or the attack on Fiji's television headquarters.
