This online exhibit is derived from artwork created for a one-person show at the C.S. Mott Community College Art Gallery featuring digital images created by Mara Jevera Fulmer.
The title of the show came from the concept of a journal, combining both the written word, photographs and ephemera. The subject of the journal deals with transitions and passages related to her family's move to Fiji and then back again to the USA. Issues such as lifestyle, culture and geography all come into play in these digital collages which is derived from her own journal, letters, photographs and scraps.
It deals with issues of expectations, illusions, cultural clashes and coming to terms with life in a land and culture that reside far away from the familiar.
The "journal" does not end there, however. It also deals with the issue of repatriation, returning to the "mother country," only to find a land that is as alien as the first one seemed to be when she first arrived.
